Maybe. Hard to judge. The stuff I use is about 1cm thick. No point buying a huge roll if you're not sure. No rush!

Also I'm not sure you need 5m of the stuff but you never know

But you seen the prices? Really cheap compared to buying actual filter pads.
Decided i'm going to buy either

3meter of 1.2-1.5cm stuff for £5
or

1meter of 1.8-2.2cm stuff for £4

They end at 7 tonight so just see how high the bidding goes!

'This stuff' IS poly sponge. Just on a massive roll that hasn't been cut up yet and sold as 'poly filter sponge for X Brand'.

I think I got a smallish sheet of both regular and poly sponge from the same seller and both will last me ages - bear with, I'll find the links.

I got these when they were a little cheaper on offer, but same principle applies. That small sheet of foam cut up to about 50 pieces so will last me ages, probably 18 months, because it's so rarely changed. The poly pads came ready cut up and I only change those every 10 days or so.

So yes a huge sheet or roll will save u more money, but smaller will last a fair while too.

The ones I linked are indeed the two types of sponge you need. One is the same kind you've found for 9 pound, exactly the same. The second I posted, the bag of 50 pre cut ones, is the same product as that huge roll you're looking at, it's just cut up.

BUT that roll you want is thicker than the poly I got. I think its too thick. Aim around the 1cm thick mark.

And no probs

That'd last you ages in a u2 filter and in the event you're not happy with it (unlikely, but still...) you haven't got meters of the stuff.

Yes, you are right. The rough sponge, I usually don't change that one at all, just clean in some old aquarium water. The fine sponge is worth changing just because they're so cheap.
