Hi All,

I have 3 assassin snails. I believe all the pest snails have been eaten and am quite happy to give them away.

I was told at the fish shop that i could put a small catfish in to sift through the substrate sand and eat up all uneaten food.

can anyone advise??

I just want 1 to be honest as im nearly fully stocked. i have platys and neons.

Thanks,

Dave

Keep them in there, they aren't doing any harm and have virtually no bio-load so you can either have a small pleco and the snails, or just the snails. What is your tank size and stocking?

to be honest im not sure.... the guy at the fish shop said these are great for your tank,,,, im not so sure but i thought maybe one to clear up the sand??!?!?!?!?!

150 litre tank 14 platy and 5 neons

he also said i could get a load more fish in there

music to my ears but then i thought well other people said im already fully stocked

im doing 2 x 20% water changes a week and my parameters are great

ive got a 54litre tank incase of any fry .

its not cycled but i have got heater, filter etc

going to give any fry to the fish shop as they said they will have them from me

u could get corys but they like to be in groups of 6+

Just remember that any fish you buy to 'clean up' uneaten food from your sand, will also poop on your sand as well...

Keep the assassins. I've had mine for about 2 years, and haven't seen a live pest snail in at least a year. Yet somehow empty shells keep turning up so they're still in there somewhere. Also, if you bring any new plants home they'll likely have snails or eggs on them. Assassins will clean up the bottom of the tank of uneaten food as well.

If you've got plenty of room in your tank, I'd suggest getting a shoal of cory. And if you have so much uneaten food on the bottom that you feel you need to get something to clean it up, I'd suggest feeding a lot less.
