Could I Add A Blue Ram To My Tank?

First up i've been on this site for a while and have always wondered everyone is talking about imperial gallons right not US gallons? I'm from Australia so we don't use any of those but i've got so used to talking in gallons from this site and always used imperial.

So now to my main question I wanna know if I can add a German Blue Ram to my 35 gallon here is the stocking at the moment:

1 Dwarf gourami
11 neon tetras
6 cherry barbs
6 albino cories

Now I will be adding my BN into that tank soon aswell but all of those fish have been in there for over a year now apart from a few of the neons and the cories which I added bout 6 months ago and have only lost 4 cherries and 5 neons within that time.

So yes would it be ok for me to add a german blue ram into the tank? I'm only worried about the dwarf gourami cause i'm thinking they might have abit of a scuffle but if its alright for them to be together i'll try it out so I don't have to buy another tank

Maybe even if I could add a pair but that could be to much? What should I try and get if I only get one a male or female?

You can use either US or imperial gallons but to be honest US gallons is the one that is used most on this forum and it is US gallons that people use when using the 1" per gallon rule.

You may be ok adding a pair of rams BUT I wouldn't add german blue rams, they require higher temperatures of 28-32 degree celcius which your other fish will not enjoy. Your best bet would be bolivian rams.

Not with these fish, no. Neons are happiest between 22-25 C, almost all Corydoras about the same or slightly less, and cherry barbs around 24-26 C. So aiming for 24 C would be ideal. Mikrogeophagus ramirezi need much warmer water, 28-30 C, as well as very soft, very acidic (ideally pH 5-6!!!) conditions. If the water is acidic enough for these fish to be healthy, the biological filter wouldn't work at all, so you'd need to use zeolite.

Rams have such a terrible track record in community tanks precisely because people keep them in water that is too hard and basic, and the poor things rarely adapt. As pH goes up, the populations of bacteria in the water increase as well, and blackwater fish are rarely able to handle this. On fish farms, much use is made of antibiotics, but this isn't practical at home.

As others have said, Mikrogeophagus altispinosus would make an outstanding addition to your aquarium. It is a hardy, adaptable, peaceful fish.

Ok thanks guys well my tank is a 42 gallon tank then if going by US gallons

I was hoping to get the german blue ram because my shop sells them (we sell them as blue ramirez and gold ramirez so guessing thats the blue and gold version of the german blues) but we don't have the bolivian rams so I might give it a skip unless I can order 1 in with my massive store discount

Would I be able to get a pair in there or just one? Male or female?
