I have a jewel rekord 60l which has been set up since september last year.

No problems until a few weeks ago.

About 6 weeks ago we had to move the tank in the living room. When moving the tank with help from my Dad, he forgot to switch the heater plug back on. Luckily in some ways the weather has been relatively warm, but unfortunately, I was away a few weekends ago and only when I returned and did my usual tank checks did I notice that the temp had dropped from 27degrees to around 19/20.

We gradually warmed the tank up again as per the various books advise. My stats went off slightly but live bacteria from the LFS has brought everything bak on line. Partial water changes were also carried out. Nitirite seemed to be the worst with the levels going between 0.1 and 0.25 (although the test didn't go as dark as 0.25.

All stats are now back to normal, Ammonia is o, nitrite is 0 and nitrate is around 15. Ph is appox 7.3 (not quite at the 7.5 colour but certainly darker than it shows at 7).

I inherited 4 neon's from a friend's grandad who was getting rid of his tank as he was no longer able to cope with anything than looking after himself. these have been in since around january and have been great. However, yesterday I thought I saw white blobs on two of the neons mouths - today I have had a really good look and there are certainly cotton wool type blobs on the mouths of these two.

To top this off two of my 5 guppies are not getting on and one is nibbling the others tail fin - this tail fin is beautiful and the largest tail i have seen on a guppy. They have taken a chunk of tail before in the past but this is a straight across nibble. There is no reddening or whiteness on the edge of the tail and having seen fin rot before.

And tonight, just before I treated the tank with the interpet number 8 finrot & fugus, out of the blue appeared a baby platy!

So now what do I do?? The baby is in a fry box in the tank and I have nowhere else to move the infected neons to. So can I treat the tank with the baby in there????

Sorry so long winded but I needed to get m frustration off my chest !

Thanks in advance

Jo

Hi
Sorry about your unfortunate incident.
You're gonna need to treat your fish as they will probably get worse. It was probably brought on by stress during the cold time.
Basically, IMO, you're looking at, "Do i save my stock at the expense of one baby"?

You could float the baby in a cut down plastic bottle and it will stay warm?

Meant to half dose with fry.
The finrot and fungus med by interpet not that good on flexibactor columnaris.
Myxazin and pimafix is better.
Don't forget to increase aeration with meds.
