I've had the exact same thing.
If it's the same, it's pretty thin, and only on the silicone?
All I did was wipe it off and let the filter suck it up.
With mine I also had some sort of film on the top, though that may not be related.
It's pretty much cleared up now, though.
I was told that it was just some of the plastics used in new aquariums nowadays, and that it should clear up in a few weeks, so long as you just keep wiping it off :)
Hope that helps! :)

i got a film a day or so ago and now have a few white dots that look like dust on the surface have wiped silicone and its all been sucked up now.

Okay, sounds the same as mine then :D
I just cut up a pair of old tights and dragged them along the surface to get the film out, but any old fabric should do! :D

film is going now just have dusty stuff to go, im on holiday for three weeks soon so no fish till after so all should hopefully be clear by then.

Yeah, should be gone very soon :)
Hope you have a good holiday!

Yes, those are coatings of fungus and bacterial biofilms (usually not from the beneficial bacteria we are trying to grow inside the filter.) They are quite common, harmless and go away on their own eventually, usually never to return, or you can clean them off any which way you wish, as you two have done (there, that's my run-on sentence for the night  )

~~waterdrop~~ :)
