There is a cotton ball like thing growing between his eye and mouth...sort of like on the left nose hole....what do i do? what do i use to cure it?

your fish has either a Saprolegnia (fungus) infection
or a Columnaris infection (mouth fungus/cotton wool disease)

the thing is Columnaris, dispite it's common name is a bacterial infection, not a fungus
so treating for both at the same time is often not possible.

If it were me I'd treat with melafix and raise the temp to 82f,
if I couldn't make a difinative diagnosis.

As if it mattered.. Tripling that notion.. Pimafix will also work along with any sort of fungus cure.. Pick some up from your Lfs and remove the carbon from the tank and your good to go..
Good luck

Do NOT raise the temperature. Raising the temperature of your tank is fine if you're treating ich - fungus and bacterial infections, however, respond in the undesirable manner of actualy spreading faster. If anything (actualy, you should) lower the temperature to below 75 deg F (gradualy).

As fungus infections normaly only occur as secondary infections, it's almost deffinately a bacterial (columnaris - and aeromonas sometimes) infection. Medications used to treat 'fungus & finrot' are made to treat this but most antibiotics are equaly useful (if not better) as long as you are careful to monitor your water quality and eprform water changes as necessary as antibiotics can cause issues with biological filtration.
