Corys Or Other Bottom Dweller?

Hi there,

Now that I have finished moving my fishes around, I think I can add just a couple more fishes in my larger tank. I was thinking of getting some corys again, but wasn't particularly keen on peppered or albino corys. The others are quite expensive around here, at around £6 each. Saw some Kuhli Loaches at 6 for £12, tiny ones. Again not sure if I will get to see them if I get them, like my liver cat. Any comments or suggestions welcomed.

Corys rather than kuhli's, you'll see much more of them and they're fantastic fish. Which tank is it for? Either way, 8 panda corys would get my vote - more if it's the bigger tank.

It's the bigger tank. Choices over here isn't bad, but the less common ones are at least £6 each, times 6 is £36, which is a lot in my books. The reason I have 3-lined corys was because they were "only" 6 for £18. Maybe I should get more rainbowfishes as well? To be honest, going by aq-advisor I am slightly overstock as it is. I don't think the corys will contribute much, and I think my filtration system is pretty efficient (at least I have zero nitrate 2 weeks after water change thanks to my plants). Would love to get 2 more boesemani rainbows.

On the cory front keep an eye on Aquarist Classifieds - you'll usually find private breeders selling Corys cheaply. You could also consider a mail order stockist such as Trimar, they're often reasonably priced.

How long is the 215L tank?

If your "Liver Catfish" is Heteropneustes fossilis, a predatory catfish with poison glands on its pectoral spines, I get the impression that anything other than some "friends" to share the bottom of your tank will not do well. Planetcatfish reckons this fish can reach 50cm, so going on the "4x length, 2x width" rule, I hope you are looking around for a tank upgrade!

I was mis-sold that fish. I am trying to sell it on classified here. Depends on who you believe, it can reach up to 30cm. I have no money for upgrade so hopefully I can move it on before it gets too big. It's currently about 5" head to tail. It lived happily with the corys before, hiding most of the time.

LOL!! Nice, i like it!

I've never had loaches, but the ory's are brilliant mate, especially the Panda ones. I would save up and buy them when you have enough money... definately worth it in the long imo.
