Cory's, Barbs And Plecs

i already have a very soft spot for cory's and plecs, but after a trip to the lfs yesterday i realised just how many species of barb look great. i have a community tank and other than a couple of cherry barbs i avoid barbs due to their apparent feisty nature towards other fish.

however ive just read that cory's reguarly get on fine with barbs as they keep themselves to themselves, and generally it seems possible to have plecs with most fish. if i was to stick with the 3 types of fish - cory's, plecs and barbs - would they get on ? im sure there will always be an exception, but im just wondering in general if its possible.

i dont see why not. Personally, i dont have cory's, but if you want to be careful, then either avoid the especially nasty barbs (tiger, but they really arn't as bad as people say) or keep them in respectible numbers (6+)

As for plec's, my barbs don't bother them at all!

You will be fine, ive plenty barbs, 2 plecs and corys.

Ive had no problems with mine they all seem to get on fine.

Obviously you can get rogue fish, but in general barbs aren't as bad as their reputation would suggest. I think they get their bad name from people who try and keep just one or two.
In a larger group they're fine; I have tiger barbs in a tank with zebra loach and a clown plec and the barbs don't bother them at all.

The trick with barbs is to chose a species that fits your tank and stocking that will enable you to get 8-10 of them. Barbs regularly bicker amongst themselves (if enough of them) for "top spot" in the group, but this aggression will include tankmates if the barbs are in small numbers.

it would be fine. I have rosey, tiger, and cherry barbs in my living room and i have a pleco they don't even look at. I was thinking about getting a cory or 2 the other day but i could only find albino. but my friend had rasbora barbs with 3 corys...granted they are some of the less nippy type they still didn't bother with it.

I think it would be fine and a tank i would enjoy pictures of actually
