Cory With No Face!

One of my Sterbais Cory's has developed a rather large wound on his face. I did notice it a while back but it seems to have gotten progressively worse.

He doesn't seemed phased at all? Is still swimming about and eating as if nothing is wrong but it looks horrendous! I have got a GBR with a mark on the top of his head too which I have already made a thread about but I'm pretty sure his is due to an injury.

All of the other guys from this batch of Cory's have died, I can only assume they had something wrong with them! I am treating the tank with Melafix and have upped my water changes to keep it as clean as possible but just wanted some opinions on what I could do to help him heal or wether he will infancy heal at all?

It kinda reminds me of a heater burn? But if all the other corys have died it could be some rare infection.

They didn't have any symptoms like this guy. They had holes in their stomachs instead? Do you think it will heal or too large?

If it keeps spreading there's a good chance of it not. I'd keep an eye on him.

One of my Beckford Pencilfish had something that looked similar last summer and it was resolved positively with more frequent water changes and a treatment of Myxazin.

Looks like a horrible case of hlle. Melafix won't help. You should setup a hospital tank and treat with an actual medication not an herbal astringent. If it is hlle, then your ram might be getting it to. As for healing, not likely. At most the lesion will heal over, but the lost tissue won't come back completely.

I've looked on the net for info on hile and can't find anything? What is it? A bacterial infection? I can't set up a hospital tank as I have no other tank or way of seperating him. What can I use to treat?

The ram got his bump before the Cory's face started to deteriorate and was fighting with a male pearl gourami I previously had so I am 95% positive it is an injury rather than disease, but am still keeping a close eye on its healing.

Yeah that could just be a scar. Look up hole in the head, usually a cichlid disease but can affect other fish. I don't know what meds are available in the UK for it...

The cory died yesterday

I wasn't surprised by any means, just sad as I've never had a fish look so disfigured the poor thing

Have stopped using the Melafix in my tank for the moment until my Myxazin is delivered as I don't want a big load of different treatments in the tank.
I am still gonna treat even though the Cory has passed as I am worried this wound on my Rams head is still deepening. One time I look and I feel like its growing back, and then another time I am positive it looks worse. He has been flicking a bit today so I don't know wether it is beginning to irritate him?

I know the Myxazin is used for bacterial problems, but will it also help heal if it can in fact heal?

I have looked at pictures of hole in the head disease and it doesn't look like that is what it is, but I am just unsure as to why it seems to be getting worse rather than better!! Have done around a 60% water change yesterday and tank is looking much clearer as the Melafix was making it look cloudy.
If it is hole in the head will the Myxazin help?

My commiserations on your loss - it's not nice when a fish we have tried to look after passes on.
 
I can't answer your last question BUT may I suggest that you put some carbon in your filter for at least 24 hours to remove the Melafix  and then do a large water change and remove the carbon BEFORE you add the Myaxin?
 
You don't really want the two mixing with each other otherwise it might prevent you successfully treating your fish.
