Ever since changing from gravel to sand about 6 weeks ago now, I've been having an ongoing problem with my tank, I've lost 3 of my 6 cory. I've managed to get the water parameters back to what they should be, but the cory's all now hide at the back of the tank and I hardly ever see them, last weekend I decided to have a change round of the plants and bogwood and hidey holes and spotted this little one

I removed him straight away, his tail area was really red and nasty, I've had him in my quarantine tank since then and have been treating him this week with Myxazin, today is the last day of the treatment, question is, do you think his tail will grow back, or should I do the kinder thing and euthanise him. He seems quite active, but hasn't eaten anything I've put in the tank.

Many thanks

Philippa

Size of tank in gallons or litres.
How many fish and which type.
Water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.\

Has the redness gone in the fins.

65 litres 24" long x 12" wide x 12" high (ish)

4 harlequin Rasbora, 1 albino cory and 2 cory melanistius and 1 siamese fighting fish.

Ammonia 0, Nitrite 0, but has only been zero for about 2 weeks, have been doing daily water changes, Nitrate between 20 and 30. Ph is about 8. Water temp is 76. The Ph is a lot higher than the tap water 7.2/7.4. I don't have a test for KH, should the tank water be a lot higher than the tap water? My other tank (180 litres) has a ph of about 7.4

All other fish absolutely fine, but I did lose the other 4 corys over the space of 4 weeks.

I think it's probably from the poor water quality the others died. But parameters have been ok for this past 2 weeks.

He is now in a little 25 litre tank, being kept at 24 degrees, water stats all at zero with nitrate at about 40.

Redness has all gone, the picture above was just taken this morning.

Thanks

Philippa

Corys are very sensitive fish and it sounds like the bad water quality that killed them off.
R.I.P.

Thanks Wilder

Should I give it another dose of the Myxazin after this two day break? Do you think there is any chance of his tailing coming back or will he be ok like this. The redness has all gone, but don't want him to pass any fin rot to the other fish. They all seem ok now.

Thanks

P

Does the tail look like its healing.
Good sign the redness has gone.If there healing you can just use melafix now.

Yes the redness has completely gone and certainly hasn't got any worse over the week. I have melafix, so will swap to that and keep it isolated for the next 3/4 days I think then see how it is, if it seems ok, i'll pop it back in the main tank.

Again, thanks for the advice.

Philippa

I would use the melafix in the issolation tank.
