Cory in a bad way

Do you have any other tanks, best to sterlise the sponges, but don't want to make matters worse if you have to cycle the tank again.

hi i know your problem is almost solved an all but you didnt say what you nitrates were.... if they are too high this could be the problem!!! my albino cories died of this (i bought them and used them to cycle :S but back then i was young and reckless) welp needless to say one was eatin but the first one died of nitrate toxins!

Hi OohFeeshy :)

I wish I had seen your thread earlier.

Bacterial infections are common this time of year, and the one most known to sweep through and devastate a whole tank of fish is Columnaris Flexibacter. It is a terrible disease and can do this overnight.

At this point, I would suggest that you medicate your remaining fish with an antibiotic or with Myxazin or Interpet's Anti-Fungus and Finrot medicine, depending on what's available to you. In a week or two, when you are sure the survivors are completely well, I would clean out and recycle the tank. I wouldn't keep the filter media or substrate.

Don't worry Inch, by the time I realised something was wrong it was too late really. I found the body of another tetra I'd obviously missed (it was long dead). At least I learned that buying from that shop won't be a good idea for a while- I was talking to someone at school who said he'd bought fish from there before and they'd all died.
I really want to keep the media and substrate though- black sand is expensive and hard to find. I'll probably boil it or similar. Leave it to dry out. Whatever. I'll sort out that hurdle when I come to it.

I've had similar problems with my cories - one minute they are fine, next they are on their last legs, fins, or whatever the fish evivalent is! All other fish in tank seemed well at the time. It's happend with 6 of my cories over the past year or so. All water stat's coming out spot on at the time.
