Corner Tank? Any Pros Or Cons?

As I have no experience at all with tanks, is it quite easy to add an external filter? Also, apart from the obvious extra space in the tank, what are the benefits of an external one?

Majority of the time, better filtration - there's more space inside to hold more media.
Easier to clean and maintain.
It all depends on the brand you go for.
 
My Fluvals, well, before I "got the jist" of how externals work, I watched a video on YouTube by Fluval of them setting one up. Once you've set it up once, you're away. The instructions are quite clear and concise which is also good as I find it difficult to put together IKEA flat pack furniture let alone external filters aha.

Thanks Sophie. Just had a look on YouTube, lots to see. Thinking I will get going with everything in my little black box until I feel a bit more confident in what I am doing. I know I sound chicken, this really is going to be baby steps with me 

 It really helps to be able to come on this forum though.

It's ok, I went out and brought a massive Co2 set up, cost me a bomb and I chickened out and it's sat in the box still

It's a relief that it's not just me that's a bit nervy about something new. I'll get there eventually
