hi guys, well 2 of my convicts are breeding :hyper: and need some advice. they have dug out under a peice of slate and there is roughly about 20 eggs, problem is they have exposed my undergravel filter and im worried the eggs or fry will get sucked in  please help

Take the slate they are on out? or move it to a different part of the tank. Im not very knowledgeable in convict breeding though. They just seem to be the obvious options to me :good:

If you can. Get a broken plant pot or shell and cover the eggs with that making sure there is enough room for the mother to get in and out as they are very very protective.

seperated the remaining convicts with a peice of glass. will get old plant pot 2 cover the eggs :good:

your in for a world of trouble now mate

well stuck my hand in 2 move the slate and cover with old half log i found in an old bag of fish gear and guess what?????? the mother went for my finger  lol

Here is a pair of mine which started to breed last night....

Any intervention now will cause them to eat the eggs... Convicts normally lay in excess of 200 eggs.

Being that close to an undergravel filter, the fry will be sucked in once they hatch... Best advice I can think of is to remove the fry (by syphoning them out) immediately after they hatch and rear them seperately....

With the fry removed, the parents will breed again after a week, but set up an area away from the ug filter with a flat surface they can lay the eggs upon.
