I have put 4 baby convict cichlids in with my mollies in my freshwater tank. So far its been 2 days and they have pretty much been hiding around. There is for sure no threat to them from the mollies but im wondering after time will these fish becomve aggresive and kill all the mollies or will the get along with them from growing up with them. Kinda like dog hating cats, but not if they dont know they are supposed to...Any ideas?

they will eventually breed and kill the mollys, sorry. :(

never kept cons, but imo, no good.
I'm sure somebody will chime in soon who has kept cons to back me up.
*edit
or somebody has while I'm typing this.

I guess this is your 20gal tank ¿? A pair of cons should not be kept in anything less than a 30gal tank and even then there would be plenty of aggression. Convicts breed quite easily and knowing them you would probably have a breeding pair and then it would hit the fan. In that case you will have to remove the other cons and molllies as they would probably be killed. Sorrry for the bad news but convicts just arent suited towards small community tanks...they are much better in species tanks and a steady way to deal with the fry they produce. -_-

Convicts

Breeding convicts can happily be kept in a 20gallon tank a 20L is better. The mollies would be food after a while most likely

If it was a bigger tank then it might just work out i mean i keept an oscar with a molly for 4 months and it was fine, the only real problem you have here is that when it comes to feeding time the convicts will become very agressive towards mollys if they get more food than what they do and turn and react on them.

Thats kinda what i figured...That the mollies might eventually meet thier demise.. I think im gonna try it out though.. see what happens i guess. I have had the mollies for a long time and im ready for a change anyway. Hopefully some of them might end up getting along. if not o'well i guess its survival of the fitest.

youve ACUALLY kept a mollie? u must be kidding! VIP has kept something that isnt a cichlid, or bigger than 5 inches! i thot u said those were mindless :p

but breeding cons can happily live in a 20g, as long as there is only 1 pair.... and u were wondering if the mollies were a threat to the cons?  RIGHT... those mollies are LUNCH!

once those cons pair up the mollies might as well be in a blender, unless your intent is to have them die I really think you should rehome them.

you should be smacked cuz you are posting garbage on this site know what you are tlaking about befor you are posting it ok!

cons will don conpleetly fine in a 20g they will do conpleetly fine in a 10g

are your mollys and cons the same size if so say good buy to them mollies beacuse the cons will grow much faster and will be much meaner i had 4 baby mollies that i desided would make my con tank more colourfull so i put em in and they ripped them appart like piranhas soi would watch them very closely!

back in the day of not knowing much about fish i had 2 breeding pairs of cons and 7 jewels all in my 20g and if there was a fight going down i would let it happen cuz it would end fast!

my firend use to have 3 oscars 2 of which were larger than 10" and he had a 3" con that would rally them around cuz he was so fast.

dude, what the !@#$is wrong with you?

30 gal is a really good recomended size for beginners.beginners should use a 30 gal if they wanna breed cons because it also allows space for the fry to grow up.

actualy you should be smacked in the face for saying cons should breed in a 10 gal. they shouldnt theyre kill eachother.so think before you type :grr:
