imo, cons shouldn't be kept in anything smaller than 29 gallons but a 3' tank would be better. male cons can reach 6-7" and need their room to move. 10 gallons would suit a convict to about 2-2.5" and then the con needs a larger home. a 20 gallon would work to about 4". 
as VIP said, cons and mollies could be kept together in larger tanks. I'd recommend at least 55 gallons to attempt this. mollies aren't the fastest fish in the world so they'll need plenty of room to stay out of sight of the convicts. tiger barbs are a better dither, imo, with convicts because they are a much faster fish.
