Hi, if i put a proven male in the same tank as a proven female how long will it take for them to pair up if they do?

Thanks :good:

JRD - look at the info on your 'wanted' post, then take some advice for once and cycle the tank - then worry about what to put in it.

What are you going to do with the female krib?

As for 'proven' whether male, female or pair - this does not mean for definite they will breed for you in a new tank.

If you go for convicts then get a young group, let 2 pair up and return the rest to your LFS.

I had a proven pair and they never spawned for me!!!!!!

But these fish dont stop once they start.

just buying a proven male and a proven female of whatever is not a garuntee that they will pair up and mate take the advise off indigij and get a group of about 2/3 females to a male or buy seperatly to make a group for different blood lines and get the tank cycled or you wont have any fish to mate or they just wont because of stress from the toxins from the uncycled water

like helterskelter said ive also bought proven breeding piars of kribs (4 breeding piars) convicts (3 breeding piars) and a pair of jewels and non of them have spawned or even tried to mate since ive had them oh and labidochromis hongi they are doing everything but not laying

Are u sure 4 convicts are ok in a 100 litre at the same time

I'm not sure any convicts will really be suitable for that particular cubish tank but a group of 4-6 juveniles would be fine in 100l for a short while - you'd have to keep very good water maintenance and be able to rehouse or swiftly rehome the others once a pair formed.

how long estimated will it take for a pair to form

these fish will breed mate, alot and alot and alot

and the fry wont sell for much...

i think you should calm down and have a proper think on what you want to keep; you wanted Kribs, then Firemouths, Keyholes and now convicts i believe.

Let it cycle then sit down and research :)

Honestly, COnvict's in my OP are a mistake. They breed like crazy. Most stores wont take the fry for FREE, let alone buy them off you. They are extremely agressive. Everytime I have had them, I have gotten rid of them because of one of those reasons.

QFT

very aggressive when breeding. They breed like rats and LFS will pay nothing if not pennies =/

what should I breed then if convicts r a no~no
keeping in mind I have a 100 litre with driftwood, plants, a biggish rock and a pot and

also i dont want a fish that most lfs' would say "ohhh sorry we cant buy them i'm afraid theyre not on are regular order list for the wholesaler and we dont really have a suitable tank for them"

Thanks.

OP: If you want something that the lfs will take, try Apistogramma's. Something like the Cacaouides will fetch you money. At an auction I was at yesterday, breeding pairs were selling for 20 bucks easily.

i think you should actually research some fish instead of just saying you want the first fish you think of.

exactly what i said

I say go for a pair of Rams (as you know alot about rearing the fry) or a pair of Apisto's! maybe even some electric blue rams? :good:
