Convict Question

Yep start off with some small, easy to breed cichlids. Then maybe when you have more experience you could try convicts.

Convicts aren't easy to breed?

;)

It doesn't take any experience to breed cons, just a decent sized bucket and some water LOL

haha. It's true. Con's are usually pretty small. They can hit 6 inches if given time. But once they start breeding, they don't get much bigger.

I didn't imply that convicts were hard to breed. Just said start off with something small.
From my experience with them, convicts don't take much at all to make them happy, IMO it is a wonderful beginner fish, although I don't know how big a 100 liter tank is in US gallons.

I've never seen one 6 inches, mine stayed at 3 once they paired no matter how much food I gave them, and to be honest, never seemed to need a ton of space.

If you want something easy to breed for a 100L tank, go for Apistogramma. As Krib already suggested, something like Cacatuoides would be ideal - you can sell them (granted, not for a huge amount - but unlike convicts you will actually be able to get rid of them) and they're pretty good parents. 1m 2 or 3f ratio, plenty of bogwood, jobs a good un.

Just to add, if you've not cycled the tank don't even think about buying anything yet. Most apisto's are easy to source anyway, so once your cycle is coming to an end you can start looking. In the meantime, do some reading up on them:

Get your cycle going, and use the time to plan and do your research.

Auratus seem to suit my tank more than anything else lol

Auratus;

Needs a tank of at least 100litres
Lays eggs in caves
Fry would sell 4 more than kribs
Look nice
Easy to sex
Mouthbrooder (I know how to strip fm's from fry
I have a goodish aquascape

What more would u want :)

I will update with a pic of my tank soon

I take it you mean Thorichthys Aureus? I've not kept them, but from what I've read they aren't that disimilar to Thorichthys Ellioti - which I do keep - and imo 100 litres is too small.

For that size of tank you should be looking at dwarf cichlids in my mind - apistos, rams, keyholes. Nothing bigger.

Auratus are African cichlids Chris :good:

If he does mean Aureus, then

I know they're Africans, so I figured he'd made a typo. In my defence, I'm tired. Which is always my excuse but which is no less valid!

Auratus are horrible idea. They are EXTREMELY agressive. The males need a 55 g tank minnimum because of thier agression. Thats over 300 litres. Apistogramma Cacaouides are your best bet.
