Convict Cichlid Problem

Thanks.
Good Luck.

Well it seems that the "fungus like" spots are gone from the sides and the inner top lip looks better. There is still just a litte bit on the inner lower lip. I guess Pimafix does work then. :good:

It depends as some meds can look like there working till you stop the med and it all flares back up again.

Keep going with the med.
Good Luck.

How long does it state in the instructions that you can use pimafix for.
Never used the med myself.

It says treat for seven days & then do a 25% water change. However, my lfs told me to do treatment for two days & then do a water change & repeat it symptoms haven't went away. They also said to use the carbon to get the medication out of the water once treatment is complete.

i would try some aquarium salt from my experence its pretty good at treating most things. few bacteria can tolerate salt plus it helps with producing a good slime coat and helps with stress. you should treat with pimafix for 7 days and then do a water change continue pimafix if need be.

You can only use salt if all your fish tolerate it in the main tank.

I would follow the med instructins not the lfs.

I remember you said columnairs or whatever it was that it was bacterial & after further looking at the bottle it says that it does in fact treat internal & external bacterial infections.

Ok.
How are the fish?

Well I moved it so it wouldn't spread to the other convict & there is still just a little bit around the mouth area. The growth on the sides are gone.

Ok.
Keep going with the med.
Good Luck.

Thanks for all of your help Wilder with my emergency, but unfortunaletly the convict died today. I had her for about 3 years.  :-( Do you know what could have caused the death?

Bless Him.
R.I.P.

Melafix and pimafix are only good on mild columnaris.
If it's a bad strain of columnaris you really need antibiotics.
How are the other fish doing.

I think it was a bad strain then. The other convict is doing well as I seperated her from the male so he wouldn't get it either. He looks lonely though. They were a pair & gave me loads of fry.
