My convict cichlid had a fungus white cottony growth on it, so I'm now treating it with Pimafix. But what I really want to know is what causes the fungus growth?

Its probs best to post this in the tropical emergencies. But as far as I know fugus is caused when an open wound becomes infected, which is caused by stress which could be due to the wound. Any ideas how it was caused? Does he/she fight with anyone much? Whats the tank like etc?

I have no idea. I didn't notice it until the fungus had spread. She doesn't fight with her mate at all. They are both in a 25 gallon tank.

Are there any other agressive fish in the tank? A 25g is good for a pair :good:. Only other thing I can think of is if they were digging out a spawning sight and ripped her lip on the gravel? Also if the fish have locked lips at some point while displaying to each other it could have happened then?

They are in there by themselves, & they haven't spawned in a while.
