Hey all,

I haven't had my convicts more than a week and one of my females has laid eggs inside a plant pot and the male is guarding them as expected.

My tank has in total 16 Convicts, 2 Rainbows and 1 Nicaragua. (The tank is of suitable size etc)

But other fish are still getting way too close to the convict pair, and aggression is really starting to build. I have another small empty tank set up, a 10 gallon one. I am unsure whether it would be a good idea to move the mother and father, and the plant pot where the eggs are laid into the smaller tank.

So my question, is is this a good idea at all? And will the eggs survive the transition between tanks? (Are they sticky, or will they just roll off).

Many thanks for any replies.

im not sure...but i dont think its a good idea moving the parents, chances are they will resent the idea of moving and the eggs will die....i could be wrong mind, im sure the other fish will get the idea that they cannot go into the pot soon enough lol :hyper:

Thanks for the input bud.

Anyone else have any idea? Or can I just remove the eggs in the plant pots (A second set of Cichlids has laid now) to the breeder tank?

Moving the eggs is best done by submerging a bucket into your tank (big enough to contain the pot with eggs) gently move the pot into the bucket (under water) then lift the bucket with the eggs totally submerged..... Any eggs exposed to the outside - even for a fraction of a second - will die.

when placing them in the receiving tank.... follow the same procedure... submerge the bucket.... slowly remove the egg receptical (pot).... and then remove the bucket.

As for the parents.... They will (90% chance) eat the eggs if you move them as well.
