Constipation

Well have you seen those holding containers that lfs use to put the fish in before they bag the fish to sell to you? Well could I put it in one of those and set it on te inside of the tank since in my 3g bucket I don't have a heater for it. Also how long should it be in this salt bath? Also is regular aquarium salt ok to use?

Yes that container should be fine, normal salt should be fine though not as good as epson salt, start off with ten minutes, usually half an hour, but best to start of gradually, if the fish starts to role upside down remove the fish, good luck.

I'm sorry but im going to have to just say that this is probably a female and these tetras dont always swim together, my 4 can be found at different corners of the tank sometimes and only come together when scared or spawning. If you put this fish in a plastic bag with salt then you are going to kill it with the stress.
I'm sure the fish will eat when its hungry and its only an egg laden female and you just might not have a male for her to spawn with.
Of course i cant see the fish to judge whats happening but i dont think putting it in a bag of salt water is going to help.
Any chance of a pic of the fish and one of the other fish?
Your call Durbkat :)

No  I said one of those holding containers that the people at the lfs put them in BEFORE they put it in the bag. Sorry no digital camera. So if it is a female tetra that is full of eggs and has no one to spawn with will she be ok since she hasn't eaten anything in a few days? Also since she has no one to spawn with what will happen to her, will they just fall out and eat them or will they continue to build up in her and she dies?

Are they breeding the tetra that I think is a female and has eggs in her. One of the other tetras that is really smaller than her is staying right next to her and appears to be rubbing against her repeatidly. Are they breeding or is this tetra attacking this tetra since its the weakest in the group?

I have black tetras in a long 20g tank (see sig) and one of the long finned black tetras is constipated so I took him out and isolated him to feed him the pea but he wouldn't eat it enough thought it sunk right next to him where he could eat it. So I held it at the surface of the water and moved it back and forth to see if he would eat it from the top but still nothing. Also he didn't eat today either. So is their any other way to get him to eat it since my mom won't let me use cod liver oil because she thinks I'm just experimenting with the fish? I know this is in the wrong section but hardley anyone goes to the section I'm suppost to put it in but I need some answers ASAP.

Simply Put if he isn't Eating, the Cod Liver Oil Method is about the ONLY WAY to Help him.

But if he does eat, I've Never had a Fish yet that has like PEAS. :/
Even though Many reccomend them.

Try some CANNED Leaf Spinach that is Drained, Put a small Chunk in and I'll bet he'll Start eatin on it like Crazy.

That is once he figures out it's FOOD... Who can BLAME them I don't Like it Myself...

I feed it to mine Once or Twice every two to three weeks, And I very seldom have any fish have Constipation...

Let us know How it Goes...

Thanks daddyfish so just take a small pinch and let it set in some dechloranated water then drop it in the tank? If they don't eat it will my pleco eat it?

What youve desceibed is breeding behaviour durbkat with the smaller one hitting the side of the bigger one.

What i dont get is the big hang up about it being constipated. Just because you havent seen it eating doesnt mean its not.

I know it doesn't mean that its not constipation. So were they breeding? If so how will I know where the eggs are and if they succesfully breeded then when will fry start showing up?

Not the writer of this information below.
Constipation- This is often caused by a diet without enough variety, or by feeding too many starchy type foods. Symptoms: If your fish is having trouble passing feces, or if they are forever trailing behind a fish, your fish may be suffering from constipation. Treatment: Feeding your fish a diet with more roughage and a greater variety sometimes helps! Feed live foods such as (wax worms, brine shrimp, tubiflex worms, etc.) peas, spinach. If you can get your fish to eat one grain of Epson salt it can also help aid with the constipation. Soaking dry fish food in some water taken from the tank will soften the food and help in the digestion process.

Thanks for the infor wilder but that doesn't explain why it isn't eating though. Where would I get wax worms or brine shrimp?
