Constipated Or Just A Greedy Sod?

This male guppy I have had nearly a year. He was home bred. He's been fat, but never this fat! I thought he was constipated so I added 'greens' to his diet along with Daphnias. He hasn't got dropsy (no pine coning of scales) and his behaviour is normal; apart from the fact that he's not getyting it up! )

My question is, is he constipated or just fat? The water stats as of this morning were ammonia 0ppm, nitrite 0ppm, nitrate 10ppm, pH 7.6 and a water temp of 26ºC.

what you have there is a very pregnant female,note the gravid black spot,if you pop over to the live bearers section you will see pinned topics on guppys,male guppys dont have this dark gravid spot,ive got both sexes my female didnt look as big as yours and i found 8 fry today .hope this helps.donna.

Hate to disagree with a woman, but that is def a male guppy! Here's a pic of him I took before Xmas.

It's not as clear as I'd like, but you can def see his gonopodium!

Well he does seem to have a gonopodium

Hermaphrodites are not uncommon among livebearers but having enlarged the pic I think this is a female with a damaged anal fin.

roughly 3-4weeks.

not exactly true. i had a female platty that just gave birt hand is still big. since all livebearers are basically the same i would assume that the "fat" could be just the results of "her" pregnancy. another little trick that most livebearers have is the fact that they can store sperm for up to 7 batches. "she" could just be using that sperm, getting pregnant, dropping the fry in the tank, you don't know about the fry and the fry get eaten, repeat above steps

but to be sure post this in the livebearers section and look for the mod annastasia to respond. she is really good and knows her stuff about fish. she is fast accurate and polite. great person to go to for advice and from my experience what she says is most likely going to be true!
