okay, so i am super keen on these (Neocaridina Davidi) Fantasy Blue shrimp, thats the name they are sold at, a DARK DARK blue almost black colour and i wondered if anyone can properly confirm this breed to me and is it correct. il link a video of them hopefully that will be good enough to get a 100% positive ID, i am trying to do as much research on these guys but when i google Fantasy Blue i get nothing back other than websites selling them, when i google Neocaridina Davidi i get a red variant and information regarding, also this (family tree) but again no Fantasy Blue here, there name is also called Fantasy Blue Jelly, and are the darkest of the Jelly, so where do they lie on that Family Tree, and when researching information for them, for example would breeding tips for the normal Red cherry shrimp apply to these Dark Blue shrimp??

any insight into the world of shrimp be appreciated, i have kept RCS before and bred successfully with no help of my own, and they bred no in a tank but in a bottle with no only natural sun light and a heater set to 26c and a home made filter :S so not ideal conditions for them but the multiplied like mollys or guppies :p

i would so love to breed these Fantasy Blue shrimp and love to hear if anyone on here has them or knows them???

Hmm, not totally surprised you're having trouble finding info on these Neocaridina Davidii, shrimp sellers do sort of change the names around to make them more appealing to buyers, Fantasy Blue, Fantasy Blue Jelly, Fantasy Jelly, Blue Velvet and Blue Dream, as far as I know are all the same, obviously there are differing grades of them resulting in various hues of blue colourings.

In fact I THINK Neocaridina Davidii was previously known as Neocaridina heteropoda, basically a colour variant of the Red Cherry Shrimp.

They are all Neocaridina just variations in colour and they do breed together. I think the only place you'll find reference to them is sellers - have not yet seen any reference to them on info sites. The ones I have are N. palmata (white pearl) but all Neos will interbreed so need separating if not wanting to risk them reverting to wild type. Cherries are N. davidi as you said. Caridina shrimp can be kept with Neos as they will not interbreed.
This is a good reference when mixing shrimp:

Yes they are now N. davidi. Not sure why they needed to be reclassified, seems to be happening a lot in the shrimp world

haha thank you i just posted a few links mama to your topic from planetinver. looks like u probably seen them already :p haha and that link was next on my list to read thank you :) I'm always learning and yes i will be separating my cherry's and the Fantasy blues up.

When you get these shrimp try to find out the water parameters of the tank they where bred and kept in, the pH and gH has a huge bearing on how well these guys will do and how their colour will develop/ intensify or if not spot on degrade.
Keep in mind that with the more heavily line bred( inbred) colour morphs their care and requirements gets more finiky compared to the easy to breed red cherry.
Will you be able to see the shrimp in the flesh or will you be buying them online and have them posted? I just remembered that one of the stress colours of cherry shrimp is blue, so best if you can observe the shrimp your buying before making the plunge.
Best of luck with them, I would love to have some Blue Cherry's.
