You can put one of those stick on thermometers on the outside of the tank. That way you can watch and make sure it stays at the temp you want.

phoenixbaby, you really need to calm down and take things less personally. i have seen loads of posts where you flare up at some "insult" someone has given you, where no offense was intended, comments from myself included. i didn't read the comment from colin_t as a criticism of you, merely as backup to your statements. on many of the posts on this forum, several people will provide the same info. its not because they are saying the others are wrong, but everyone is entitled to post there own experiences and opinions.
please don't take offence at this, its not meant to have a go at you, just how i see things.

Hi Deefus and to the forum. I agree with everyone on this one, 50W would be just fine.Sponge filters are much better then normal filters because bettas dont like water current, also they fins could get sucked up by it. If you buying your betta from aquatic shop check him over and make sure he is healthy,but if you want some quality show bettas I would recommend DP Fishways (Modaz on this forum). Brought some lovely bettas from him myself,so can confirm they are beautifull, healthy and very low price.Good luck

a 25watt is more than enough for a tank that size, i think that lady is just trying to sell u extra that u dont need

I use a 25 watt one in 1 of my 8G tanks and a 50 watt in another and a 100W in another, all seem fine...

Maybe the women was not trying to make more money cos in most LFS (well near me anyways) a 25W, 50W, 100W, 150W, 200W, 300W are all the same price.. Jad heaters £10 and another make that i cant think off head are £13.

have u picked a boy out yet? in my experience, amd i live usa pennsylvania, that the boys in the local fish stores are usually older breeder cast offs,, unless you find a store ,, like modaz,, that s breeds his own. getting a young healthy boy is a easier start then an older not so healthy one thats been stressed and in with a bunch of sharks. ,,,hmmm and ive done it alot cause i am sooo weak when it comes to little bettas in sh#tty cups,, but somtimes they pull threw and are my best bettas ever or they die within weeks or months even with a ton of care and work. rip juliette.

tbh ibble its not just me who is getting annoyed, its not me thinking it as a personal attack, but the way he worded things was as so to say almost what i had said about the heater was incorrect because he keeps 100w in 35 litre tanks. im not gonna carry this on, and the thing about our disagreement was sorted after u said to me in pm that perhaps u had been rude (hence y i reacted) now this is not going to be turned around to be about me reacting, i have reacted in situations, some were justified some were me being a twat, so lets leave it there

I have my boy! How happy am I?!!
I was up at 6:30am this morning, through excitement
He's blue, with red bits on his fins. And he's of the VT variety, I believe.. nothing fancy, but I love him!!

I got a 25w heater, which has the tank at a nice temperature, and will return the 50w.

No photos yet, as he's still floating in his bag, acclimatising. But there will be some soon!
