I have been thinking about adding some new stock to my tank and i was wondering if this would work.

Have a ten 10 gal
recently cycled
1 hob filter
1 internal filter
should i get rid of one of these? and if i do which one?

right now I have 3 guppies (i will be finding a new home for these because i have found out that i dont like live-bearers. yay for being new... )
9 neon tetras

could i keep a betta with the neons?

and what could I add for some bottom dwellers?
what could I add that would be fine by its self?
I was thinking some albino cories, but i think the tank would be overstocked with a small shoal of these.
I might be willing to find a new home for the neons also if i could find some nice bottom fish, but i would want a small shoal.

Thanks

Neons can be very nippy but i have had no problem keeping them with any of my bettas. I think it all depends on the temprament of the fish.

As for bottom dwellers, i have 4 panda corys in with Midnight and they just leave each other alone. I also have 2 panda corys in with Sunrise, Maoam, Paprika and Bubbles and they all seem fine together.

Im quite lucky that my Sunrise, Maoam, Paprika and Bubbles are very good natured fish and i have managed to keep guppies with them, but i wouldnt reccommend it as Midnight hated the guppies...he is just a grumpy old man tho! :fish:

Guppies and neons - the worst 2 to keep with bettas. just not worth the risk - how would you feel to find any of these fish dead because they had fought? If you don't want that on your conscience, then I wouldn't even risk it. If you are desperate for a betta, why not add some cories, then when they are settled, rehome the guppies and neon and add a betta then? They should be OK with cories, especially if the cories have already had chance to settle and establish their territory. I would choose a betta over neons any day! So much more fun :)

okay thanks guys!
I didnt think that neons were nippy. but i was thinking of rehoming them because the school i have does seem like to would be big with a betta.
I never thought about pandas with them...how many could i have in a 10 gal?
thanks!

Not to rock the boat but i have my male in with about 10 guppys, male and female and hes fine, think just depends on the fish.

yeah, it does depend on the fish, but fish like humans can snap just like that - personally I won't keep fish together if they are rumoured to be incompatible because I would feel so bad if something went wrong, and I had been warned.... that's just me though, I feel guilt too strongly!
