if you dont want them breeding its best to get all female platys...
That is no guarantee that they wont have young, Most female live bearers in the pet shop trade are pregnant when you buy them and can produce a batch of young about every 40 days for the next 6 months from just 1 contact with a male.
 
The pH is good and I don't have hard water.

I've no idea what this actually means. You need to pin down the GH and pH with numbers or we cannot provide good advice. I post #1 you asked for advice and we are willing to offer what we can, but not without the data to start from.

Having said that, if you do have water on the soft or moderately soft side, platy will not be healthy. But again we need the numbers...it is a simple matter to check the website of your water authority, or even call them.

And the fish someone has given you...what are they? This sounds like even more trouble.
 
The first post says they are glow tetras. I have asked but we still don't know if they are glowlight tetras (Hemigrammus erythrozonus) or one of the species used for the genetically modified Glo-fish
