As per title, i need some advice please

To start;

pH is 7.2
temp will be at whatever the fish needs, its empty but cycled. (External full of mature media)
Tank is 4f wide, 2ft tall, and 1.5ft front to back
Sand substrate, a lot of bogwood, low level silk plants and Java Moss

There is a breeding pair of JD's for sale in the classifieds. Could i put them in (in terms of tank suitability) and could i put them in with two large (12 from two different but close species) of Corydora?

What are your thoughts?

To breed cory's you will need a tank where you can add them to then remove the eggs or the parents as they will eat them. Also a breeding pair of JD's will probably damage the Cory's if they come near their spawn.

Any passing suggestions on what to put with two groups of Corys? (Not expecting a stocklist!)

There is plenty mate... A nice medium sized tank that you have work with.

Ellioti?
Salvini?
Keyhole?
Rams?
Blue Acara?
Geo. Red Hump group?

A ph of 7.2 is a little high for perfect water for cichlids, but they will adapt to that pretty well imo. You could also add some bogwood to help with lowering slightly.

If you looking for a complete tank list then i would stock it something like this...

1 Ellioti
15 Harlequin Rasbora's
15 Neons/Cardinals
Pair of Albino Bristlenoses
12 Corydoras

You may also get away with something like a pair/trio (1m - 2f)Honey Gourami.

Assess the situation after stocking and see how it feels regarding the numbers.

Also go fully planted

Well, if i was to have 12 Sterbai, would they cope? I know they can handle it fairly hot, but would they be ok with most other fish in terms of temperature? I would prefer them over others, but there are so many others i like to, so i can find plenty that would suit!

Im going to check out your stock list suggestion!

Oh, and there is a ton of bogwood in there already, ive spent nearly £60 collecting some rather interestingly shaped and coloured stuff from a P@H store would you believe! Has loads of bands of colour in the wood. Would love to know where it came from some i could find huge bits! Ill get some pics up soon...

Is it Mopani wood? All the fish i have listed should be happy at around 24-26 degrees i would have thought.

Im not too sure, it didn't have a name on it, but its the same stuff as at my LFS, just much nicer looking!

I bought two bits when i cycled the 2ft, then bought another two the othe day which have leached tannins into the water during today!

Ill get you a pick...

Ok so here is a picture of one of the bits i bought last night, its about a foot long and about 5 inches wide

This one is of the right hand side of the tank, one new bit on the far right, and two older bits done "leaching"!

And this one is of the whole tank face on as it stands as of 2 mins ago...

Yep, Mopani tree roots mate. Will leech for months. lol.

+1 to the leeching, i soaked mine for ages but still had a tank that looked like a big cup of tea, some large water changes can help unless you like the look.

Im not fussed, i quite like it! I guess it will deplete with water changes?

I really like your stock list ideas. The mrs wanted neon tetras, so she'll be happy. I really like the rest. Nice group of Cichlids to pick from. Im going to a LFS tomorrow, and should they have any of what i want, ill be leaving with fish, so ill let you know what i make it home with! It'll most likely be 6 or so Corys. Im in no rush...

Tannins are great for fish mate. Corydoras and Tetra's especially. Also when looking for stock don't over look Glowlight Tetra's. Cardinals have alot more colour than Neons but command a higher price tag... Water changes and carbon in your filter will help to remove it... but tbh, i like it so i leave it. I also use collected wood in my tanks aswell.

Keyholes are extremely nice and underated fish too.

Other fish to consider are

Rosy Tetras
Serpae Tetras
Scissor Tail Rasboras
Dwarf Neon Rainbows (Praecox)
Boesmani Rainbows

Serpaes a little nippy when mature, not one i would shove in a community tank.
