Gold barbs, as is true of most barbs, are nippy. I would drop them from the list completely. Chinese algae eaters do not eat much algae but they are known to latch onto a fish and eat from its slime coat, leave those darned things at the LFS. Who needs that kind of problem?

lol, I agree OldMan; Chinese algae eaters are one of the very few fish I actively dislike I'm sure they're lovely in the right set up, but they're far too close to lampreys IMO!
