hey, i was wondering about some tank mates for a dwarf gourami, its a 10 gallon tank thats in the process of cycling. i already have the idea of some guppies or endlers. but i am really looking for a cleanup crew. i was thinking ghost shrimp, i think they are really cool and i need to know if the gourami will eat/bully them. there are plenty of places to hide and i think it would be a good combination:

1 dwarf gourami
4-5 guppies
2-3 ghost shrimp

i am willing to go lower on guppy numbers.

I'd personally go with this:

1 dwarf gourami
2-3 guppies
2 shrimp


The gourami should be fine with the guppies although it is worth watching their temperament in the store before you buy as a few gouramis can be into chasing smaller and slower moving fish. However, this shouldn't be a problem. I have gouramis in a tank with smaller fish and they get along fine with the odd chase now and then, but never anything at all serious. Hope this helps.

Again it really does depend on the gourami. I've heard people say that they've kept gouramis and ghost shrimp with no problems and others say that the gourami will attempt to eat the shrimp, particularly small babies. It's all about making sure that the gourami you have, has a calm temperament. Personally, If the shrimp are the lowest on your wishlist, i'd get the gourami and guppies and wait to see how he is with the guppies and if he shows any aggression there, pass on the shrimp.
