i feel mollies as a starter fish has quite a good chance of dying and mollies are very cheap and are cheap and very hardy fish

Small Corys, Most Livebearers, Some of the hardier Tetra (Pristella etc), Rams, Gourami.......few more

yeh would have 2 agree with orange there platy's as they dont get as big as mollies aswell :)

Depends on if you are intending to use them for fish-in cycling or not :/

For fish in cycling, which I don't realy agree with, Platies, Danios and hardier tetras are ok

For a fishlessly cycled tank, that has had ammonia used to cycle it, any tetra, commonly available corry, livebarers are all good choices

i think it depends on how much information you have before starting. If you want pirranha and you do extensive research and have an understanding of the fish then there is no reason they couldnt be good starters. (fishless cycling of course)

if you do your work before hand then the chances of them dying are relativley slim.

cost shouldn't really be an issue here though, i don't like the way you've phrased that really. comes across as 'because they are cheap their life is expendable' which is a bit off tbh.
