Tank parameters for my roma 240:top
ammonia:0ppm
nitrite:0ppm
nitrate:20-40ppm
pH:7.2
Tank Temp:25c
water changes/gravel vac:60Ltr(35%)=weekly

I have noticed today that my oddessa barb has a white top lip, dose not have any redness around it or any signs yet of sores. there has been no change in behavour so this has lead me to believe this could be some kind of injury. Being a newbie i just wanted to know if there is a problem or its just me, I do have some myxazin by waterlife if i need to treat.

Many thanks, Keith.

Sometimes fungus can be a secondary problem to an injury. It can also be a result of water temp that isn't ideal for the type of fish. Odessa Barbs prefer cooler water, 14-22c. (according to the Baensch Aquarium Altas). You could try moving the fish to a hospital tank and treating with antifungal medication. Sometimes with a fungal infection, raising the water temp often helps clear up the fungus but since your temp is already warm for that species, I don't know that I would try that method. If you medicate, just make sure you remove the carbon filter(if you use one). Good luck

I've just had a look at him now and his lip has improved, should i hang fire with the meds?

Keith.

an extra wc would help rather than jump in with meds if your over worried.
