i have just learned that if you feed you cichlid Colour Enhances Foods, eg flakes, pellets ect
that it will turn all your fish into males, what it does is change`s the females to males with hormones!

so watch out everyone!

surely thats not true????
who would want a tank full of male cichlids JEEZ!

would be quiete amazing if it was true....

anyone have proof? =P

dont know how that is even possible unless its full of an opposite sex hormone, but even that wont change the actual sex organ, like if a female takes a whole bunch of testostorne she will have male features but still be a women and vise versa.

Alice in Wonderland...
This mushroom makes me big. That mushroom makes me little.
This fish food makes me male. That fish food makes me female.

I like the sound of gender changing food. 'Honey, I'm sick of having a son. Feed him on the colour enhancing stuff. Tomorrow we'll have ourselves a daughter'...

Where did you learn this from, and which specific color enhancing food did it refer to? Spirulina is a color enhancer, as is any food with carotine. The color flake you usually see is dark orange, almost red, and contains a hagher amount of carotine. I've been feeding this sort of flake for years, and have yet to see any pairs change to two males. I still see the same 50/50 split between males & females that I raise as potential breeders as well.

he has not responded, must be a joke of sorts.

from a Cichlid DVD

why do you need to enhance the fish's colour anyway? don't we all buy fish to enjoy their company and natural beauty as-they-are when we first fell in love with them in the store aquarium? i say fish are not like toys or fad.

Its just not scientifically possible, yet at least :) Not insulting but i think you should take a biology class just as i did (or doing).

its not at all funny, i think you guys need to investigate on Colour enhanced products just as i did, when i heard about it,

I think what everyone is asking for (me too) is to show us the proof. What was the name of the DVD you saw? Who made it? What other investigations did you do? What other sources confirmed this idea? Please tell us the name of articles you read, or link to the websites that confirmed this for you. We want to look at the same things you did, so we can form our own opinions.

Such as, what specifically is the ingredient in these foods that causes this sex change?

This is an extraordinary claim, and extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence. We want to see this extraordinary evidence. We are not just going to believe you at your word. This isn't a reflection on you personally, it is just that we want to see some evidence that backs this extraordinary claim up.
