Colour Change

Could someone tell me what it means when the fish darken in colour? (I think) I know that fishes goes pale when stressed (as they would when you try to chase them with a net or during transport from LFS to home. My rainbows sometimes goes almost black. Same with my sajicas. Is it excitement or stress? Or another explanation?

Hi Adrian,

I did read that Boeseman Rainbowfish change colour depending on mood, I am not sure what each colour indicates... Are they darker shortly after the light is turned on? I read somewhere that someone was stating the dark colour tended to be not long after lights on - they also stated that their fish were a lighter blue towards the end of the day/light cycle.

Some of my cichlids go dark and splotchy when the lights go off. Color returns in a couple minutes after the light goes on.

My skirt tetras fins are black when the tank lights are off but fade right out when the light is on for 10 or 15 mins.
