Color Change In Betta?

Okay so I have been seeing all this stuff online about koi betta fish, and I really want one, but the only thing holding me back is that in December, I purchased a steel blue butterfly betta. Like all butterfly bettas he had white at the tips  of his fins, but the unusual thing was that his head was black and white marbled. Within about two months the white on his tail and head started going away, and now he is completely steel blue with a black head. I was wondering if this would happen with a kio betta too. Oh and I purchased my steel blue betta at petco if that helps.

Having never owned a koi I can't be 100% sure but I would imagine they have a marble gene present in order to produce the colour so it is likely to change too, personally I would just get one and enjoy it
