Coldwater To Tropical!

Hi guys, as the topic says!

I recently setup a small 10g coldwater tank for my little boy which currently houses 2 small gold fish. I managed to find someone to offload the goldfish into their tank when I'm ready.

My boy wants a small shoal of neon tetras and some cobomba (not sure how you spell it!) to decorate it.

Would I need to break down the tank and start all over again with dosing the tank with ammonia to get to cycle or could I simply remove the goldfish and add a heater. Is the bacteria the same between the two?

Sorry for the dumb@ss question, I recently dipped my paws into marine and have lost touch of the fresh side! Lol

Oh if it helps, the tank has been running for about 2 months now. I did a fish in cycle (tut tut) and carried out 20% wc daily during the cycle. The tank finished it's cycle roughly 2 weeks later and params have been good and stable ever since.

Just increase the temperature slowly and they'll be fine

Move the fish over, add the heater. If you've got another tank it couldn't hurt to move the filter across to prevent the nitrifying bacteria dying off but it'll probably be alright overnight whilst the tank gets up to temp.

Go fish shopping in the morning

Cheers guys! I already have a 20G community which has been running for a couple of years without any probs so I could always transfer some water over if need be.
I shoved a heater in one of the weirs earlier and its almost up to temp.

The gold fish are currently in a container with some tank water with a small filter running with some sponge.
I'm hoping to offload them tomorrow at the lfs while i get a few neons and thats it basically.

Plop in a heater and you are ready to go. The bacterial colonies are identically the same ones.

Just read this and it rang alarm bells. There is nothing beneficial held in the water. The filter media is what contains the nitrifying bacteria - transferring water doesn't achieve anything.
