Coldwater Filter Media

Hi guys
I've been offered a mature filter sponge from a friend to help our new tank along but its coming from a coldwater goldfish tank into our tropical. Does anyone know if this'll be ok or cause any problems? Ta

It fine as long as there was no desease in the tank it came from.
The bacteria growth should speed up faster in a tropical tank.
