Cold Water Aquarium Setup?

Hey guys,
(sorry if its in the wrong section) But i have a spare 19l tank with a built in filter which was cycled until it was emptied about 2 weeks ago. I want to make it a cold water tank with 1-2 goldfish. Shall i just whip the filter on and it should be ok or do coldwater fish need cycled fitler etc?

but im afraid 19l is way to small for any goldfish even for fancies you need 20 gallon tank and commons need a 100 gallon or preferably a pond

+1 for this advice

When you consider that even fancy goldies can grow to 6 or 8 inches body length (so not including tail!) you can see for yourself that 19l is too small.

It may be OK for 8 WCMM and maybe 2 Hillstream Loaches, if the filter gives off a strong current. Too small for goldfish

I would also go for the white cloud mountain minnows in that tank. Nice and lively fish.

PS, there is a forum on coldwater fish and ponds. Have a look there if you are into keeping goldfish

6 Danios or WCMM
1 Badis
and maybe a few shrimp

Badis are sub-tropical. Heater would be needed
19L is a little small for Danios

What about celestial pearl danios? Or do they need a heater?

Im assuming the tank is inside so unless they have a very cold house they will be fine with no heater. Most Badis can do perfectly from 15 to 26 with even more extremes being fine for short periods. In a house evn in winter i cant see the temp dropping below 15C and even if it does if its only for a month or so it will be no problems at all and be alot more natural than having the tank set at a temp all year round.

Same as the badis unless you have a cold house they will be fine with no heater. Mine are kept in a 21G unheated tank which never drops below 20c and normally around 22C through winter.

What about australian gobies? These live under extreme conditions and make for a bottom dweller. The finke goby is smaller than the desert goby and likes the same conditions.
