My Pleco has started acting weird.

Usually it's an eating-pooing machine but lately thats all changed. It more or less just hangs on the glass in one place all day/night. He ignores courgette slices which he would pounce on in seconds. He looks in perfect health otherwise. Algae pellets disappear overnight but have a load of possible takers so it may not be him.

Water is it's usual perfection......any ideas?

Do you think he's bored of the food he's being offered.
So no bloating, or looking pale or darker in colour.
What does it look like when he goes to the toilet.
Hows his breathing.

Do you think he's bored of the food he's being offered. Wouldn't have thought so. He was regularily taking courgette/cucumber, algae wafers/pellets. Catfish pellets. Prima. Frozen blood worms, glassworms and brine shrimps. Plus regular quality flake. So no bloating, or looking pale or darker in colour. Looks plump but always has. Colour normal
What does it look like when he goes to the toilet. No visable poo which is very unusual
Hows his breathing. Normal as far as I can tell

He's well fed then and plenty of choice of foods.
Does he look off colour to you. As when you had a fish a while you know when there not looking to well.
When did you last see him go to the toilet.
How old is he.
Do you remove all the uneaten food. Just wondering if he eaten something that was going off.

As I mentioned, colouring seems perfectly normal.

Most food is devoured pretty much straight away by rest of fish (and him before). Any veg is removed after 24 hours. Haven't seen any of his distinctive poo for days, about the same amount of time that he has been ignoring the cumber and courgette.

I have had him for about 3 months so I am guessing he is under 6 months old.

Oh just one other thing. I have moved him from the Tanganyikan tank to the community (about the same PH/temp) His symptoms have not changed as they were in the original tank

Meant does he look off colour as unwell in his appearance.
Not sure what wrong with him if I'm honest.
I would give him another day and in no improvement get back to the board.
Does your type of plec need wood to eat in his diet.

He could just be abit stressed then due to the move.
Keep a look out for when he goes to the toilet.

Is it possible to load a pic up of him.

That's a good point (about the wood) will do some research.

His symptoms started in his original tank that he's been in since I got him. I moved him only because I thought he was maybe unhappy so the move didn't start this. His behavour is the same in his new home.

Ok.
hard one as it could be many things from stress, bacterial infection, internal parasites.
Hard to say really as he not showing anything to go on apart from not eating and that can point to the above problems.

Ok, thanks for the imput........Will look out some bogwood and see if he goes for it. I have acouple of matured lumps in my Apisto tank that I am sure they wont miss one of :shifty:

Ok.
If no improvement in a few days maybe issolate him and try a bacterial med.

Ok so I introduced a nice lump of bog wood to his tank last night. He didn't move for quite a while then all of a sudden he freaked out all over the tank and settled on the bog wood! After about 5 minutes of just resting on the bog wood he resumed his usual position back on the glass.

He doesn't seemed to have eaten (or poo'ed) so I have now treated the tank with the first dose of anti-internal bacteria.

Not looking good is it bless him.
See if the bacterial med does anything.
Good Luck.

I tried finding info on this Plec myself but can't find out anything that would really help.
I hope you manage to sort it out, keeping my fingers crossed for ya! ;)
