When searching for pictures of Cobalt Blue or Cobalt Blue Zebra, it seems there are two different fish that come up. And maybe it's just a double usage of the common name, but I'm just asking around to see if anyone has any clarification.

on www.liveaquaria.com they have Cobalt Blue Zebra listed as Pseudotropheus and show it with the black stripes.

but usually when seen under the name maylandia callainos, it's that solid softblue solid color. but it is still referred to as a Cobalt Blue.

is it just the use of the optional word Zebra to indicate stripes?

and i assume they are not closely related since they don't seem to share the genus name.

Anyway, any insight into this would be very interesting. Thanks!

Cobalt blue zebra is just a generic name given by fish sellers. They are actually m. callainos, and I'm not sure why they show them with stripes, the online store I bought mine from did too, but I've never seen stripes on them.

Here's a few pics of mine so you can see.

one of mine is developing stripes... what could it be if not M. callainos.

Most likely P.Zebra or M.Lombardoi, any chance of a pic?

i want to add 4 of these to my wish list for my 120g cichlid tank.

i love these guys! no one carries them around here though!

where do you live? maybe you can take some of mine when i start weeding them out/down. haha.
