Hi all.

What is a appropriate level of CO2 in a 50 gallon tank with average plant growth? Is it necessary to get a CO2 regulater if the levels are under a certain amount? How do you measure CO2?

Thanks
Jonny

The recommended levels of CO2 is between 25-30ppm.

You can estimate the CO2 level using the PH and KH, but it is only accurate if you have no other buffers in the water other then Carbonate.

There are testers for CO2 they hold a 4 dKH solution with Bromothymol Blue (found in low PH test). The test is a container that sits in the tank with air between the solution and the tank water. It will then change colors depending on the level of CO2. You can use different dKH solutions depending on the level of CO2 you want. Here is one type of CO2 tester available
