The Carbo Plus is a system for introducing CO2 via a carbon plate. The carbon plate refills are nearly £20 which would seem expensive, but they do supply CO2 to the water and, therefore, increase plant growth.

I connected a new carbon plate to my appliance this morning, not havning used it for nearly two years, and switched it on to nearly full.

This evening I found two fully grown Metynis lying on the floor, having jumped out of the large tank. I also, could not find the other one and I must assume the cat took it. Two cardinals were also on the floor and five zebras were dead in the water. Cardinals hardly ever die and tend to swim near the lower half of the tank, so what prompted them to jump out.

It is quite obvious to me that the carbon plate had caused this. I later read the packet and observed that these plates are very sensitive when new and should be used on their lowest setting for a while.

I thought perhaps some of you, who have never used these systems, should be warned to be careful and I would like to hear from anyone who may have had this happen to them - or rather their fish. All the big lace Gouramis were unaffected but then nothing gets these lovely fishes down.

Hello and Welcome! Unfortunately I know nothing about plants...
I would try asking this in the planted section!

Hello and welcome to the forum. :hi:

I have heard that those CO2 systems are not very good. I guess this kind of confirms it.
