Co2 Overdose!

I have been injecting co2 for years, have also used easy carbo in the past for spot dosing bba without issue. Yesterday I treated with excel, as per the instructions. Three hours later my fish were gasping and not looking to happy at all. Had to carry out a quick water change and get some oxygen in there quick. Was 10.30 pm by this time.

So what dose of excel should I be using per 200lt while injecting co2 to avoid upsetting the fish?

the same dose as normal as they are 2 different elements. Excel is only a chemical, it won't cause the fish to gasp. It won't be the excel that caused the fish to gasp if you dosed as per instructions.

Well I did my usual wc on Monday and spot dosed, spot dosed again on Tuesday. Three hours later gasping fish? Every thing else is as it should be, four drop checkers all green.

Carried out another water change last night, fish fine today?? Every body looks happy... Any ideas??

how much are you spot dosing?

if fish are gasping it's more likely to be your gas.

dosing 5ml per 200 lt. 750 lt tank. Gas has been ok for weeks and drop checkers are green. Circulation = koralia 1x 4800 lph. 1x 5200 lph. 1x 12500 lph. osilating power head. additional power head discharging through reactor. 2x fluval 405's

Unless there was an excess of co2 in the water when I did the water change on Monday. ?

They are all fine now but I had to do a water change late last night to inject some oxygen in there.

No problems today at all.... just a bit dubious on doing anymore spot dosing.

you don't actually need that much to spot dose, you could use 5 ml and dilute it to 15ml with water, and because it's that strong it will still do the same job.

Ok after the water change on Tuesday didn't spot dose till Friday. 10ml of excel + 20ml of water. Spot dosed bba. Got up this morning fish gasping again. Carried out another partial wc. 3rd this week.

Co2 is off over night. O2 is on. why would this happen? All was ok Tuesday to Friday ?? before I spot dosed again.

Tank is 750lt so 10ml is nearly half dose ?
