Co2 Mix

i bought a nutrafin natural plant system, co2 kit, along time ago and when it is running it works really well but i found the sachets are quite expensive so it stands idle alot of the time!
yesterday i decided to mix my own, using 1/2 a teaspoon of hovis bread yeast, 1/2 a cup of sugar and warm water up to the marked level. it started bubbling within an hour and so far it is churning out about 5 bubbles a minute.
my question is- is this producing the same gas as the sachets i was buying and will it be as effective?
sorry to sound dumb but im an engineer not a chemist!!!!!

I have the same kit (as well as the Red Sea kit) and make my own mix of 1 liter of water, 1 cup of sugar, 1 teaspoon of yeast. Works great.

i was kind of worried i might poison my fish!!! lets hope it has the desired effect on the plants.
