Im also a brewer, so I have a couple CO2 tanks laying around.
So it got me thinking.... maybe i can use them for my fish tank as well!

Is this possible?
About how long would a typical #5 tank last on a 55 gallon tank?
Is a CO2 system something that should run 7/24, or do most of you shut it off at night?
Is just running it through an SS airstone submerged in the tank good enough injection, or is a defussing system required.
If the CO2 system isnt running for a couple days, is that a really bad thing?

Another crazy thought.... could i vent CO2 offa a batch of beer im brewing at the time?

Soo many questions.... soo little fish staring time.. ;)

Thanks!

Im just fishless cycling my tank right now, so no fish yet...
I did plant a few plants already....itll be a comm tank...
I used to have 5 tanks running years ago... but dropped out for about 10 years... now im back at it..;>
I did have a planted tank way back when, but never got into the co2 part of the game... so im interested.... but then maybe i dont need one either....

Ive got 2 bulbs in my hood now that was given to me:
Plant & Aquarium F40PL/AQ Wide Spectrum
Marineland Eclipse Natural Daylight F40T10

I dont think these lights will hack it though... heh

...so it looks like im under 2w/gallon at the moment... ill prob up this with adding another bulb, or upping the watt of whats in there....
I dont think i wana go for broke..;> ill prob shoot for 2-3 w/gallon...
So maybe co2 isnt even necessary...
But if i will benefit from it..ive got the tank n regulator already...
I was thinking about the JBJ setup so i can automate it as well....still readin n learning.. ;)

Heres what it looks like at the moment...
