Hi all

I have made up some dhk4 water as instructed in the forum.

When i add the reagent the colour of the drop checker is green not blue?
I am stumped for a answer. Has anyone any suggestions.
Should i test the dhk water or are these tests kits not reliable enough.

Is RO the same as DI water? I don't think distilled water is the same as De-Ionised water either.

DI water is not distilled water it is De-Ionised water. Is RO water free of everything?

If your solution is turning green then you got the mix wrong. Hagen kit is fine for the reagent.

How did you mix the 4dKH, how did you measure it, etc equipment details please

The correct mix will go green intially and then turn to blue after a minute or 2 of mixing.

I don't think the ro water is completely free of all elements probably 99%
But for this test would that matter
I tested the DHK4 water and its correct.
4 drops into a 5ml test tube.
Maybe the reagent has gone bad?

Maybe the kh test kit is wrong?

You say you tested the solution and it is right. the colour it is turning is saying it is wrong. I would trust the Ph test over a KH test everytime!!!

Don't test to make sure it is right. Do the maths and measure it out, not test until it seems right by a hobby test.

5000ml (5 litres) DI water +6g bicarb = roughly 40dKH water. shake to mix and leave next to radiator overnight.

10ml of 40dKH + 90ml DI water = roughly 4dKH water.

Why do we make it up with 5litres and not just put smaller amount of bicarb into a smaller amount of DI. because the lower you go the larger the error margin. DI and Bicarb don't cost much. I use the 40dKH to make my fert solutions up so it not wasted.

(Hagen Ph test kits are good for 5 years)

I will have another go at making up the dhk4 water with DI water not RO water.
Probably that's the answer.
