My plans for a planted tanks are pretty much completed, however, spending the money hasn't really began.

As soon as I get around to it I am going to place an order with Aqua essentials to get tropica soil, dry ferts and a interpet daylight tube. I am them going to get the rest of my lighting from an ebay seller.
I have even resigned myself to going with normal fine gravel after I had no luck finding an alternative.

However my main problem is still CO2 I am ordering the kit previously suggested from a german ebay site but have had no luck finding larger co2 canisters of any sort. I have looked on ebay but the price of shipping a fire extinguisher or similar makes it a bit too expensive. I had hoped to get a larger canister that I knew I could get refilled so as I didn't have any problems. I also want a bigger one as my dad probably won't mind driving me up to edinburgh every 3 or 4 months where there is bound to be somewhere that will refill them. I have looked into trying to get beer gas as well but really we just don't have the contacts.

So does anyone have any ideas. Really want to get this started but my budget isn't that high. :-(

Try looking under Welding Supplies in the yellow pages. You should be able to buy/rent a bottle from them. Alternatively buy a 2L CO2 fire extinguisher which you can then have refilled at your local supplier (yello pages 'fire extinguisher eqpt')

Dave.

Typically, how much does it cost for a refill?

BOC are your best bet.. they do small canisters that should fit inside the cupboard under your tank, your probably looking at an inital outlay of 20 quid for the bottle and probably 10-15 quid for the gas, after that its only 1-15 for the refills.....

Thanks, the reason I ask is I'm going to be buying a Co2 kit and have been looking at the Deltec Co2 which uses disposable 600g bottles. I can buy them from machine mart for about £8

I'm open to help here....!!! PLEASE

Yeah, have seen those disposables from machine mart... look like a good deal. Fire extinguisher recharge should be £10 to £15, not sure about the other types.

Cheers mate thats brilliant got a boc not far from me already tried to investigate their site but got a bit confused when I tried to register and it started asking for company details. So they will sell privtely?

Is it best just to go in and ask.

I haven't got a cabinat at the minute so am just looking for a pretty large bottle to keep me going.

Thanks that was a great help.

Check the connection on that cylinder Sophos9, it might not fit an aquarium reg. Just a thought :)

Sam

Good point, it looks the same shape and size, thought all disposable bottles conform to the same size?

I think there was a thread on here a while a go with someone who bought one of these Sealey bottles which turned out to have the wrong size thread on it... Will try to search for it...

Dave.

So should these Sealey bottles fit onto the Deltec CO2 disposible sets? Looking at the pic in the previous thread it looks a very similar thread to the disposible bottles I buy from D&D (500 g) and Aquaponics (600g from Hobbyfish).

Thanks for posting that thread....

The reg shown in the picture is a 3/8 which is for refillable 'proper' bottles. A reg made for disposables has a smaller connection (which you can buy an adaptor that suits refillable bottles, refillables do not have a adaptor to make them disposable!!!)

Personally I believe these will fit as all the disposables fit the same reg used on mig welders, I will be buying one at this price!! :hyper:

Let me know how you get on. Personally I would rather get my hands on a large Co2 cylinder that I know I can get refilled quickly when it runs out. I will use the 500g that comes with the set I am going to buy while I wait on getting the big one refilled. That is how I hope things will go.

If not the dissposables might work well shipping isn't that bad either so keep me updated.
