Hi everyone,

I'm currently using the Hagen CO2 system in my record 60 - its good but getting a pain to re-fill all the time to keep the level in the water up.

I also keep getting horrible slime on the first rung of the ladder which stops the bubbles - then its a case of awkwardly ketting the ladder out, washing it and trying not to lose pressure in the cannester.

I can't really afford pressurised yet but i've seen a system here: http://aquatics-online.co.uk/Z079194.asp - the TetraPlant CO2-Optimat. i thought it would get rid of the yeasty slime problem and last a little longer the mixes. the only problem is it doesn't mention controling the bubble rate.

Has anyone got any comments on a solution or this system? is there anything else i can do not too expensivly? the ladder is fine - can you get smaller cannesters of gas with a control system?

Thanks a lot,
Simon.

Hi Simon,

Ive not used them personally, but from what I understand with these, each day you press the CO2 canister and this releases CO2 into what is essentially a upturned bell holder. The CO2 then defises into the water from this as the day goes by.

There are no 'bubbles' as you get with other systems. All the CO2 for the day is put it in at the beginning. I guess the biggest problem is that there is no control over how much defuses into the water and if you're not there to fill it up ach day it wont work.

If you want to stay away from yeast, what about the "Hydor CO2 Green NRG Exclusive System" on the same link, it's like a mini presurised system. Again ive not tried these but they seem like a good idea? Probably not for big tanks thou.

Hope this helps

thanks sam, it does look the best doesnt it. i didnt realise they dont always produce bubbles - id preffer it to have bubbles.

when it says the canesters are disposable - do you know if you can fill them up aswell? ie they arent moulded to not open.

Simon,

Not totally sure, but i think disposable, means 'disposable' and so probably are not refilable. I have certainally never heard of them being refilled. They are only small canisters and quite flimsy.

thanks for the replies - think i'll wait till payday and see how i stand.

it will be worth it in the long run as i wont have to mess about with yeast!

simon.

Indeed you wont! Hope you get what you want/need

Seachem flourish excel if you dont have many WPG over the tank.
