Hello,
I have a 3 inch clown trigger in a 65 gallon tank, by himself. I want him to grow as quickly as possible. I wanted a bigger one, but because of cost and availability, it was not possible. I know the best thing is a bigger tank and I am getting him a 120 gallon a.s.a.p. Is there a food that is better for growth? I know a bigger tank and good water quality is the main things. Saltwater fish are slow growers. Does anybody know how long it would take him to get 8 to 9 inches, that is the size I am wanting him to get. Or if it is even possible?? Will he get that big in a 120 gallon with good water quality and a lot of good rock?? The problem is I have no patience. Thank you!!!

Rather than one food try feeding him a variety of good quality foods. Cockle, prawn, squid, flake, pellets, nori, anything he will munch down on.

Be sure to also feed him some hard shelled shrimp, they need this to wear down their teeth. A 120g tank is still a bit on the small side for this fish as they can grow to about a foot and a half. What else are you keeping in the tank with him?

Feed it often, with varied and high nutrition food, like as much as he wants to eat in 3-5 feedings a day, more if hes really hungry, And live food is good too if you can afford it, salt water shrimp from a bait shop or baby guppies that you have gut loaded are probably the best options for you, live food isn't primarily for the nutrition, its because it gets the blood pumping. Also, uninterupted sleep on a scedual would probably help him grow quickly aswell, in otherwords, get at timer and don't make a ruckus in the tank room at night Talking okay, but that bassy rock is no good..

Good advice, but one should really avoid feeding freshwater fish to SW fish. It seems to lead to fatty deposits around the liver of marine preds. Mollies would probably be better than guppies, and true marine fish would be even better (though more costly).

Don't feed the clown live freshwater fish because they are unhealthy and not what he would get in the wild. I HIGHLY recommend a frozen, cubed food that is called "Trigger Formula". Triggers love it and grow very quickly if they are fed this along with a variety of other foods such as marine pellets, shrimp, brine shrimp, etc. Good luck! (And make sure that nothing in his tank is easy to destroy and that the heater is shatter-proof... they like to try to "kill" random objects when they get older.)
