i have two clown loaches around 2.5 inches and i'm planning on swapping them for an elephant nose.
my lfs sells 1.5/2 inch clown loaches for like £5.85 or something and elephant noses are £7.50 i think so i reckon it would be a fair trade on his half. anyone else think so?
and also, for this proposal, what would i say/ask ? lol

thanks

You quite often get better value for money if you exchange for stock, as opposed to pennies! Can you get him to throw a few more fish in?

Best of luck with the elephant-trout (as I call mine!) - he is a real character!
He sucks up bloodworm like spaghetti, and gets over excited if I put a frozen cube in the tank - despite his soft looking nose, he can give quite a nip! Mine's a double nose elephant-trout thingy.

He is mild mannered, and gets on with everything except the bronze corys - he hates them, and chases them around the tank with his nose up their tails. I'm moving them out to a quieter tank shortly. He is fine with other corys though!

when trading in fish at your lfs you can expect to get between one third and half of they're retail value. so assuming they would sell at around 7 quid you can expect to get 3.50 each for them, so to swap two 3.50 fish for a 7 pound fish sounds quite reasonable. best bet is to call in or telephone the store first to check it's ok, as if they don't agree and you decide not to go ahead you haven't already stressed out the fish with bagging them up and carting them to the lfs

I have also read your previous thread re: elephant nose, and someone suggested that most starve to death because of problems feeding.

My husband really wanted one - and he doesn't want a lot out of life! - so we got one, despite me being very worried about the starvation stories.

We have either a great fish, or have been very lucky! He eats flake, loves all frozen cubes that we can put in the tank, and LOVES bloodworm - he gets this once a week fresh.

I was dubious about getting one for this reason, but we have had him nearly three years now, and he is great. Strange thing about these things, they swim better backwards!

okay great :hyper: thanks for the replys. i feel alot better. i hate asking people for things just incase they want to say no but feel like they cant. he had 4 in yesterday and i saw a really cute one that seemed to have brighter markings than the other 3 so i think i'll settle with that one lol and the post from miss wiggle helped alot too  with the values and all.
i fancy a butterfly fish too (not meaning to change the subject or anything lol).
im guessing an elephant nose would be fine with a butterfly fish because the elephant nose stays on the bottom?

also, something that puzzled me...
whats a
double nose elephant
fish?
any photos?
thanks
