Hello all,

I have got a Jewel Trigon 190 (190 litres) corner aquarium containing about 25 small tropical community fish (platties, guppies, tetras & mollies etc) and I am cosidering adding a couple of Clown Loach. Is this advisable?

Regards

Dave

Hi unfortunatley clown loaches get too big for your tank eventually growing to between 8 - 16 inches (16 inches being the biggest recorded one) and ultimately needing a 6 foot tank.

But there are many many loaches available for your size tank such as Khuli loaches, horsefaced loaches and yoyo loaches but the ones I would choose would be zebra loaches and/or dwarf chain loaches :)

Yasuhikotakia modesta would be a better choice, their personality is just the same as clowns
and would be a more suitable size for your tank.
I have a school of 8 in a 4ft tank and they are great

avoid any that are called "Rainbotia" as they are dyed fish

You could also consider some Botia Kubotai also known as, 'Polka Dot Botia' or 'Burmese Border Loaches'. I have some in a 200 litre, max size your looking at 8-12 cm.

I love my clown loaches - they have fab personalities. But they must be kept in groups of at least 5 and grow huge, so they are quite a commitment.
